The maillot often belongs to the border between tool and weapon. That makes context especially valuable. A labor crew may carry identical heads for ordinary work, while a militia may reinforce the same pattern with iron bands, longer grips, or dedicated weapon hafts. Project personnel can record head material, head dimensions, haft length, reinforcement, grip wear, and the owner’s occupation. The heavy head creates powerful committed strikes and slower recovery than a light staff. In confined quarters, the wielder may shorten the grip or use pushing and butt-end actions to manage the weapon’s size.
